Future Generations Education Programme

Future Generations Education Programme

Encon’s Future Generations Education programme launched in 2018 promotes opportunities within the industry. The extensive Programme is delivered to Primary and Comprehensive Schools, local community youth groups, colleges and universities in the areas surrounding our projects. Our workshops and activities focus on introducing pupils and students to the world of construction and civil engineering, whilst integrating the events with a range of practical workshops such as STEM activities, Health & Safety, Environmental Sustainability, delivered by our 5 Construction Ambassadors, in order to increase awareness of future opportunities and bridge the skills gap.

We partner with local primary and comprehensive schools, college / universities in the areas surrounding our projects, and work closely with Careers Wales and CITB to support a range of events. We are members of the Cardiff Council Cardiff Commitment Scheme and Careers Wales Education Business Exchange, and work closely with these organisations to develop our engagement activities in the areas surrounding our projects. For example, as part of our Harrison Drive Project Cardiff we have organized a wide number of events including World of Work Primary School Talks, Stem Careers Fairs, Local College site tours and construction overview, Coleg y Cymoedd International Women’s Day guidance and stem activities, Skills Cymru Career Fair, World of Work Comprehensive Introduction to Construction and STEM Team Building Event.

Due to the Covid19 pandemic we have adapted our programme, and provided a range of virtual interactive events to local schools and colleges in the communities surrounding our projects.

Work Experience

Encon are experienced in organising work experience placements for those interested in the many roles within construction, whilst also being able to tailor the work experience to meet the individual’s needs.

For example, 15 year old Molly Beattie attended work experience and worked in our Marketing & PR department, on a range of marketing tasks including setting up our very own Instagram account! Zach Humphries who is studying at St Teilo’s Comprehensive school attended our Harrison Drive development in Cardiff – the site management work experience opportunity gave Zack a real insight into the industry and has focused him on looking for an apprentice bricklaying opportunity when he leaves school.

As a response to the Covid 19 pandemic, we have produced a range of work experience and virtual site tour films, which have been delivered to schools and colleges in the areas surrounding our projects.
