Encon has embarked on a journey toward sustainability, demonstrating substantial progress in reducing its carbon footprint despite notable challenges, especially in the construction industry. The company’s dedication is evident in its strategic approach to carbon reduction, encompassing initiatives that address operational emissions while aligning with long-term net zero goals.
Since establishing initial baseline emissions in July 2021, Encon Construction has taken significant steps to enhance its carbon accounting by expanding its Scope 3 emissions reporting framework.
Notable achievements include acquiring ISO 14001 certification, adopting a green travel policy, installing lighting controls to reduce energy consumption, and continuously/transparently tracking emissions. Many of these efforts are part of a structured plan aiming for a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. Such a target is ambitious and reflects Encon Construction’s commitment to consistent reporting and accountability, as well as its focus on embedding sustainability into its organisational structure.
Encon’s proactive measures and strategic foresight in reducing carbon emissions reflect a deep-rooted commitment to achieving net zero by 2050. By continuing to integrate sustainability into its operations and leveraging technological advancements, the company is well-equipped to meet its goals and lead the way in environmental stewardship within the construction sector.
Encon’s Carbon Reduction Plan is inline with the UK Government’s PPN 0621 Technical standard for the Completion of Carbon Reduction Plans Guidance.
As part of our Construction Education Programme, we offer local school primary schools the opportunity to take part in a Bug Hotel event using recycled materials collected on site and by the school.
The event is not only great team building event, but an excellent opportunity for pupils to learn about sustainability. Since 2021, Encon have introduced secondary school carbon literacy training and family orientated environmental sustainability projects.
