The works consisted of a double extension and refurbishment of the existing school buildings plus associated external works to the playground, car parks and grass and recreational areas.

Two extensions of both single and double storeys were constructed, increasing the overall footprint by over 650m² The main building construction consisted of structural steelwork, external brickwork, Metsec framing system, Rheinzink roof coverings and aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors. Internally extensive mechanical and electrical works involved a brand new plant room with new ventilation equipment throughout the extension, plus extensions to the existing fire, data, lightning protection systems, general lighting, power, heating and domestic services.

Facilities included a new nursery and reception classrooms, a full new flying start nursery along with new and additional staff facilities. Refurbishment of existing school involved updating internal finishes of classrooms, additional toilet facilities, new IT area and cloakrooms.

Externally a much needed car park extension was added with new cycle storage and 3 new children’s soft play areas, a MUGA area and re location of external play equipment , with fencing to enhance and improve facilities.  Additional works have been implemented to improve the overall landscaping and provide a further play area with artificial grass for existing play equipment.

Throughout the construction programme the school had been a live educational facility and as such continual careful planning and programming was paramount. Close liaison with the school and council and by working outside of school hours during the week, school holidays and on weekends we avoided disruption to the school as much as possible during the contract. The works to external areas, additional car parks and re locating equipment was all phased with robust dialogue with the live school and relevant stake-holders.
